Going out for New Year’s Eve was all the rage back in the good old days, but once you reach your senior years it can seem like a bit of drag! Rather than spending all that money and effort doing something you and your friends might not really want to do, why not spend New Year’s Eve at home this year? Here at Angels On Call, we’ve got some great suggestions that will make your night the best and most fun way to welcome in the new year!

  1. Make it a movie night!

Movies are a great, chilled out way to celebrate as a group no matter what time of year it is. Make it a special new year themed night by getting everyone invited to choose their favorite movie from the previous year and then make it a night of watching as many as you can! Get the popcorn and soda ready, ensure the electronics are all working and connected properly, and let the night commence but make sure you keep your eye on the time and don’t miss the all-important midnight celebration!

  1. Slumber Party

You might think you’re too old for a slumber party, but you’d be wrong! Slumber parties are great because there’s no pressure on how late people need to stay or how they need to dress. In fact, it’s all about being comfortable and chatting together, something so many of us rarely find the time to do these days! Try moving the furniture out of the lounge and make a nice cozy den with air mattresses, blankets, and pillows to make it the most comfortable it can be. Make sure you don’t forget to get food in for a great New Year’s Day breakfast the following morning!

  1. Bring on the board games

The suggestion of board games can bring groans from some people, but they’re usually the ones that are totally into it by the end of the night! Invite enough guests to play each game (usually between 4 and 6) and get each one of them to bring their favorite game making sure that there are no duplicates. That should give you at least 4 to 6 games to play, so you’ll be going right until the early hours!

  1. A night of memories together

If it’s just you and your loved one, why not spend the evening together with a nice meal, some great music, and a slideshow of all the photographs you’ve taken over the last year. This will allow you to visualize all the achievements and memories you have made, and get you feeling ready to carry on once the new year comes around!

  1. Something a bit more obscure

There’s always one suggestion that is a bit whacky, and this is exactly that! In parts of South America including Columbia and Venezuela, it’s traditional to make an effigy of a person (usually representing yourself), and then write down the regrets, fears, mistakes, or issues that they would like to move on from in the new year. Next, you make a nice big fire in the backyard and burn all the figures when the clock strikes 12! This may seem a little strange, but it’s really just a great excuse to get outside and have a bonfire on a lovely crisp evening. You may even want to invest in some fireworks to bring in the new year to top off the night!

Stop worrying about where to go and what to do for New Year’s Eve and take your pick from our great list of suggestions! There’s something for everybody and what’s more, they’re all low cost, low stress, and great fun! Whatever you do this New Year’s Eve, from all of us here at Angels On Call, we wish you a happy new year!
